This plan is for a couple with six days on the island who want the two classic sunset places, Dinh Cau and the Kiss Bridge, without spending the trip in a car. The island is about 50 km long; the longest drive here is the move south on day four, and we break it with a swim at Bai Sao.

It assumes a dry-season trip, November to April, when the west coast is calm and clear. In May to October we keep the shape but usually swap the Long Beach base for the south-east side, which is calm in that season, and treat each sunset as a chance rather than a certainty. The sunset calendar shows the trade-off month by month.

Day by day

Day 1

Arrive, transfer to Long Beach, nothing else

Your driver meets you at Phu Quoc International Airport. The drive to Duong Dong and the northern end of Long Beach takes about 20 to 30 minutes. If you land before noon, the hotel will usually hold your bags until the room is ready; we ask for early check-in when we book but cannot guarantee it.

No plan for the evening. Long Beach faces west, so the sunset is visible from the sand in front of the hotel. The time for your date is in your day plan: 17:40 in mid-November, 18:16 in mid-March.

Day 2

Empty day

Nothing is booked. This is deliberate: a long flight, and often a wedding, come just before it. Swim before 11:00 or after 14:00, when the island's beach-safety guides advise staying out of the water because of the UV. Long Beach has flagged swimming zones and lifeguards at peak hours.

If you want something small, the Duong Dong town centre is a short ride away; a Grab car within Duong Dong costs roughly 30,000 to 60,000 VND.

Day 3

Dinh Cau at sunset, then the night market

The reef below Dinh Cau, facing the open sea at the last light

The day is free until about an hour before sunset, when the driver takes you to Dinh Cau, a small shrine on a rocky reef at the mouth of the Duong Dong river. It was rebuilt in its present form in 1937 and is dedicated to the guardians of the island's fishermen. The rocks below it face the open sea, and it is a known sunset spot at about 17:00 to 18:00, depending on the month.

When the colour has gone, walk to the Duong Dong night market at 6 Bach Dang street. It opens at 17:00 and is busiest from 19:00 to 21:00, so arriving straight after sunset puts you at a grill stall before the peak. Food stalls are at the front, souvenirs at the back. Your driver waits and takes you back.

Day 4

Bai Sao early, move south, Kiss Bridge at sunset

The setting sun between the two arms of the Kiss Bridge

The one long day. Leave Long Beach at about 06:30 for Bai Sao, around 25 km from Duong Dong on the south-east coast. It is the island's most popular beach, and the official tourism guide's advice is to come early on a weekday for quiet. Swim in the calm water, have breakfast at the beach, and be on the road again before the late-morning arrivals.

Check in to the southern hotel around midday and rest through the hot hours. At about 16:00 the driver takes you to Sunset Town, which is 20 to 30 minutes by car from Duong Dong or the airport and less from most southern hotels. The Kiss Bridge charges 100,000 VND per person between 16:00 and 19:00, which covers every sunset of the year. A short jet-ski and flyboard show runs in front of the bridge daily at 17:00. Dinner afterwards at the Vui Phet night market by the beach, open 16:00 to midnight with more than 100 stalls, or at a table we book for you.

Day 5

Empty day, or the sunset boat

Nothing is booked until the late afternoon, and nothing at all if you choose the itinerary on its own. Couples who add the sunset boat for two are collected about 1 h 45 before sunset and are back at the hotel around two and a half hours after it, with dinner eaten on board.

If you add the photo session instead, we put it here in its sunset version, so day five ends with the photographer at the Kiss Bridge or on a west-facing beach.

Day 6

Leave

Breakfast, a last swim if your flight allows, and the transfer to the airport, about 20 to 30 minutes from Sunset Town. We time the pick-up from your flight and add a margin; Phu Quoc's airport is being expanded, with new terminal works scheduled through 2027.

About the times

Sunset times in this plan are computed for Duong Dong on the 15th of each month, 2026. Sunset Town and the north-west coast differ by a minute or two. Your day plan gives the figure for your actual dates.

Where the dinners go

Two dinners are planned around the night markets because they put you next to the sunset spots: Duong Dong's market after Dinh Cau, and Vui Phet after the Kiss Bridge. Herring salad, a Phu Quoc dish of raw herring with grated coconut and chilli, and charcoal-grilled sea urchin are worth looking for.

For one private dinner, we book a beach table at your Long Beach hotel or a nearby resort, timed to start about thirty minutes before sunset. As a market reference, one Long Beach resort publishes a private beach dinner set at VND 9,150,000++ per couple, with a promotional price of VND 7,995,000++ until 31 October 2026 (published price, October 2026; confirm before travel). The '++' means service charge and tax are added. That offer is weather-dependent, which is true of every beach table on the island; we ask for the rain plan when we book.

Who this itinerary is not for

  • Couples who want a different beach every day. This plan has one move, on purpose.
  • Anyone travelling in August or September who needs both sunsets to happen. Those months average more than 22 rainy days each.
  • Couples who want island-hopping by boat to the An Thoi islands. We do not include it; it is a separate day with its own weather rules.
  • Travellers who want nightlife until late every night. The plan ends most days with dinner.

If your dates fall in the wet season

From May to October the south-west monsoon brings bigger waves and murkier water to Long Beach, and the east-coast beaches around Bai Sao and Bai Khem become the calm side. We then base you in the south-east for most nights and keep Dinh Cau and the Kiss Bridge as evening outings, decided on the day from the sky. July to September can also bring storms with heavy rain and fairly strong wind, although the island is among the places in Vietnam least often hit directly by major storms.

Common questions

Questions travellers ask most

Can we stay in one hotel for all five nights?

Yes. You lose the early Bai Sao stop and the short walk from the hotel to dinner on day four, and gain one more slow morning. The driver takes you to Sunset Town and back from Long Beach instead; it is a longer evening.

What if it rains on a planned sunset evening?

Your day plan names a fallback for each evening, usually a covered terrace facing the same direction or a move to the next day. Showers on Phu Quoc are often short and heavy, so the sky can clear within the hour.

Is the Kiss Bridge crowded at sunset?

It is the bridge's peak window; the operator charges double between 16:00 and 19:00. Arrive early enough to walk the bridge before the light turns, then choose your place.

Can we add a third base in the north?

For five nights we advise against it: a third check-in costs half a day. With seven nights, the north-and-south itinerary does exactly that.
