View along Phu Quoc's west coast with a long curve of sand and the sea turning gold in late afternoon

Three coasts, three kinds of evening

Phu Quoc is about 50 km long, and which coast you stay on decides whether you see the sun set over the sea, how busy the beach is at 08:00 and how far dinner is. Three areas compared for couples.

Phu Quoc is a special zone (đặc khu) of An Giang province since 1 July 2025, an island of about 589 km² including its islets. The airport sits between Duong Dong and the south, about 10 km from the town centre, so no base on this page is far from it.

Long Beach and Dinh Cau: the west coast near town

Long Beach, Bai Truong in Vietnamese, runs for more than 20 km south from the Dinh Cau headland. It faces west, so every hotel on it has the sunset in front. Its northern end is next to Duong Dong, the island's main town, with the Dinh Cau shrine and the night market a short drive away. It is the easiest base for a first trip, and a built-up one.

Bai Sao and the south-east: the calm morning side

Bai Sao is white sand and calm water about 25 km from Duong Dong, and the official tourism guide calls it the island's most popular beach. It faces the morning, not the evening. From May to October, when the south-west monsoon roughens the west coast, this side is the calm one. We use it for early swims and sunrise photographs rather than as a sunset base.

Sunset Town and the Kiss Bridge: the south-west tip

Sunset Town is a purpose-built resort town on the south coast, with the departure station of the cable car to Hon Thom, a night market and the Kiss Bridge, whose two arms stop about 30 cm apart. On 1 January each year the setting sun lines up with the gap. It is a busy sunset spot with plenty to do after dark.

Choosing an area by month

From November to April, both west-facing areas work for sunsets and Bai Sao works for mornings. From May to October the balance shifts: the east side is calmer, and west-coast evenings become a decision made on the day. The sunset calendar has the month-by-month table, and the quiet-beaches guide covers crowds.

The north-west coast, around Ong Lang, Vung Bau, Bai Dai and Ganh Dau, is a less crowded west-facing stretch. It is the first base of the seven-night itinerary.

Common questions

Questions travellers ask most

Which area is quietest for a honeymoon?

The north-west coast around Bai Dai and Ganh Dau, which a local guide describes as less crowded. Of the three areas on this page, Long Beach's southern stretches are quieter than its Duong Dong end.

Can we see the sunset from Bai Sao?

Not over the sea. Bai Sao faces east and is a sunrise beach. For sunset you need the west or south-west coast.

Which area is closest to the airport?

The airport is about 10 km from Duong Dong. Long Beach and Sunset Town are both about 20 to 30 minutes by car; the north-west is about 40 to 50 minutes.
